Room Rate
ACLM has negotiated a discounted rate of $149.00 plus tax (currently 12%) for rooms with single or double occupancy at the Planet Hollywood Resort. Additional persons, above two (2), will be charged a rate of $30.00 per adult over 21 years of age, per night with a maximum of 4 persons per guestroom. Please reference group code SMACL3 to receive the ACLM discounted rate.

Hotel Deadline
The deadline to receive the ACLM group rate is January 25, 2013. ACLM encourages you to make your reservation early, as the hotel and discount block may sellout before this date. After this date, reservations will be accepted based on availability and higher rates may apply.

Hotel Deposit & Cancellation Policy
A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to hold a reservation. These deposits are fully refundable if the hotel is notified 72-hours prior to arrival and a cancellation number is obtained.

TRAVEL & TRANSPORTATION

Airport Information
Las Vegas International McCarran Airport (LAS) is approximately 3 miles from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino or 9 minutes by car.

Taxi Cab Services
Several taxi companies operate at the Las Vegas International McCarran Airport (LAS):

Taxi rates for a one-way transfer to the hotel cost approximately $25.00.

Please note: Taxicabs are available on the east side of baggage claim, outside door exits 1 – 4. Airport personnel are available on the taxi curb to assist passengers. Taxicabs are also available at the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center.

Some taxis will not accept credit card payments. Customers should notify the attendant if they plan to use a credit card for payment. There is a $1.80 charge on all fares originating at the airport. The maximum number of passengers allowed in any taxi is five (5), including infants and children.

Rental Car Information
Avis Rent-A-Car is the official rental car company for the ACLM 53 rd Annual Meeting. For reservations, please call (800) 331-1600, and use the code “ J901055” to receive the discounted rates.

Shuttle Service
The Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino does not offer their own shuttle service to Las Vegas International McCarran Airport (LAS). There are 24-hour public shuttle services from Las Vegas airport to most Las Vegas hotels. It cost about $5 per person one way. No reservation needed. When you need to return to the airport from your Las Vegas hotel, just call the shuttle company. They will go to your Las Vegas hotel to pick you up.

Early Registration Deadline
Meeting registration forms must be received by the ACLM Executive Office by January 25, 2013 to receive the discounted early registration rate. All forms received after this deadline will be assessed the regular registration fee.

Registration Cancellation & Refund Policy
Registration refund requests must be submitted in writing to the ACLM Executive Office by January 21, 2013. All refund requests will be subject to a $100 processing fee. No refunds will be made after January 21, 2013.

Educational Needs & Objectives

Educational Needs
Medical practice is controlled by complex legislation, administrative rules and regulations, and Federal/State court decisions interpreting those laws. The day-to-day practice schedule of the typical physician does not allow them the opportunity to maintain a working knowledge of these developments. Nor do typical physicians have the luxury of time to analyze new trends that will change, effect, or streamline their medical practice. This meeting will provide reporting of new legislation, rules and court decisions, societal changes and shifts in the market place that will impact the practice of medicine. Key changes impacting the practice of medicine during the past one to two years include: Infrastructural changes that will lead to market consolidation at both the hospital and provider levels, the impact of technology including Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) on the practice of medicine; State imposed ethics requirements as part of the continuing education process; physicians seeking non-traditional employment; medical malpractice; the outsourcing of healthcare services, climate change’s impact on communicable diseases; and social networking’s impact on the practice of medicine.

Objectives
The 53rd Annual Conference of the American College of Legal Medicine will focus on a diverse range of current legal medicine topics. By the conclusion of this meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Describe recent legislative and court opinions
  • Recognize why the market for physicians’ services is becoming extremely hostile
  • Assess Medical Technology and the ability of EMRs to eavesdrop on physician’s practices
  • Integrate Medical and Legal Ethics
  • Identify techniques for overcoming personal impediments to a fulfilling professional practice
  • Explain Medical Malpractice trial techniques
  • Translate the impact of Globalization on public health policy
  • Identify how the HITECH Act’s Meaningful Use will reshape the healthcare market
  • Recognize the impact of social media on the practice of medicine and law
  • Integrate new regulatory changes

DENTAL NEEDS
The overall program developed for the 5th Annual Conference on Ethics and Legal Aspects of Dentistry is designed to educate the dental and medical communities about current issues that involve scientific aspects of dentistry as well as access to care. All aspects of the program ultimately relate to the art and science of dental practice.

DENTAL OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this meeting, attendees should be able to:

  1. Identify the legal issues in dentistry
  2. Describe the government's role and the role of dental education
  3. Describe the ethical, moral and diagnostic issues as they
  4. relate to dental practice
  5. Evaluate risk management considerations
  6. Identify issues relating to patient care
  7. Identify electronic record keeping requirements
  8. Identify the changing paradigms in clinical dentistry

ACCREDITATION STATEMENTS

CME Accreditation Statement
The American College of Legal Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American College of Legal Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.75 AMA PRA Category I Credits TM, which includes a maximum of 2.00 hours of Medical Ethics credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Conflict Resolution Statement
The American College of Legal Medicine CME Office has reviewed this activity’s speaker and planner disclosures and resolved all identified conflicts of interest, if applicable.

CLE Accreditation Statement
The American College of Legal Medicine designates this program for up to 19.25 hours on Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit, which includes a maximum of 1.50 Legal Ethics credits. The precise amount of the CLE will vary by state.

CERP Statement
This continuing education activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) through joint efforts between Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and the American College of Legal Medicine for a maximum of 19.25 ADA CERP credits.
