The American College of Legal Medicine (ACLM) invites scholars, legal professionals, and clinicians to submit abstract proposals for our 2027 Annual Conference. This event serves as the premier forum for discussing the evolving legal challenges within the healthcare landscape and the medical realities that shape jurisprudence.

Submission Themes

We are seeking original research, case analyses, and policy reviews at the intersection of health/medicine and law.

Some examples include:

  • Forensic Sciences: Developments in forensic pathology, toxicology, and the presentation of scientific evidence in court.
  • Bioethics & Health Law: Legal frameworks for end-of-life care, reproductive rights, and genomic data privacy.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Healthcare fraud, HIPAA/privacy updates, and pharmaceutical law.
  • Public Health Law: The legal authority of health agencies and global health security.
  • Mental Health & the Law: Competency evaluations, involuntary commitment, and neuro-law.
  • Medical Malpractice & Litigation: Standard of care, determining causation/injury, scope expansion, and the nuances of informed consent.
  • The Dual-Professional Career: Maximizing the “legal and clinician” brain, recognizing the value of dual degrees, and navigating private practice vs. hospital employment.
  • Professional Health & Advocacy: Addressing burnout (how legal medicine can help), suicide prevention. Incorporating advocacy into your medical-legal career.
  • Medical-Legal Ethics: Conflicts of interest (Should a clinician use the hospital’s lawyer?), non-competes, medical board issues, and hospital credentialing.
  • Global & Environmental Health: International tracks covering pandemics, refugee/border health, pharmaceutical cross-border issues, and the impact of climate change on legal medicine.
  • Innovation & Media: Copyright/patent law in health and a special look at health in media
  • Public Health & Society: The impact of entertainment and social factors on health, including indigenous-related health issues.
  • Trainee & Career Development: Dedicated tracks for finding mentors, networking with colleagues, and innovative ways to increase Graduate Medical Education (GME).
